En 2005 la inflación al consumidor se situó en 4,85%, dentro del rango meta de inflación para el año (entre 4,5% y 5,5%) y 65 puntos básicos (pb) por debajo de la inflación registrada en 2004. La reducción de la inflación con respecto a 2004 se explica por la caída en la inflación sin alimentos que compensó el aumento en la inflación de alimentos. Los otros indicadores de inflación básica también disminuyeron. Dentro del índice de precios al consumidor (IPC) sin alimentos se redujo la inflación, tanto de transables como de no transables. El grueso de la disminución de la inflación anual se concentró en el primer semestre del año. Durante el segundo semestre la inflación anual se mantuvo estable, a pesar de un aumento transitorio de la inflación de alimentos que se revirtió en noviembre y diciembre.

Consumer inflation was 4.85% in 2005. This is within the target range for annual inflation (4.5% to 5.5%) and 65 basis points (bp) below inflation in 2004. The drop in non-food inflation, which offset the rise in food inflation, explains the reduction with respect to 2004. The other core inflation indicators were down as well. Within the Consumer Price Index (CPI), both tradable and non-tradable inflation declined. The bulk of the reduction in annual inflation occurred during the first half of the year. In the second half, it remained stable despite a temporary rise in food inflation, which reversed itself in November and December.
